FNB Improves Access to Cellular Banking

By Staff Reporter

WINDHOEK

The First National Bank (FNB) Namibia has introduced a new dialling code for its Cell phone banking service, as well as a new N$10 minimum airtime recharge via the same service.

The new number for free prepaid cell phone airtime purchases is *140*000#.

The number, according to the bank is an additional number, and does not replace the *140*321# presently used for normal banking transactions.

*140*000# can be used for prepaid airtime purchases and prepaid history only – with no bank or network charges charged for its use.

In addition, FNB customers do not have to register again in order to access this new number, as it is immediately available to existing FNB Cell phone Banking customers.

Existing customers do not have to change their MOPIN (the customer’s five (5) digit authorisation code, selected during FNB’s cell phone banking registration process), which remains the same as for the *140*321# number.

Announcing the new development, Kathleen Nell, Manager of FNB Electronic Banking recently said the introduction of the new number offered an additional value, “through the introduction of purchasing N$10 airtime”.
Previously the lowest recharge amount available was N$20.

“With the new number our customers can dial to purchase prepaid cell phone airtime and check their prepaid cell phone purchase history free of any bank or network charges,” she said in a press statement.

Cell phone banking from FNB allows customers to make payments, transfers, balance enquiries and of course, purchase prepaid cell phone airtime.

“Prepaid cell phone airtime can be purchased for oneself or someone else using the same network. This service is currently only available to Tango customers and only for prepaid mobile numbers,” she added.

Using FNB’s cell phone banking service, Nell further said, would add convenience to the festive season, not to mention security.

“Everyone that registers for cell phone banking from FNB will also be registered for our free InContact service, keeping you on top of any activity on your bank account. FNB constantly improves all innovations to enhance customer service which ties-in neatly with our corporate philosophy of ‘How can we help you’.”
