Getting a good meal while enjoying the festive season goes superb as food is the cornerstone for a happy day.

So what would the festive season be without the taste of a variety of good food, tasty treats and mouth-watering traditional food?

Well, if you are at the coast, you will be surprised with the variety of cuisine offered by various eateries that do not disappoint your taste buds.

New Era visited a few food gems as both Swakopmund and Walvis Bay do not disappoint when it comes to food.

For those on the go, Kapana and deep-grilled fish are always just around the corner, with popular spots always having fresh delicacies available. You don’t even need directions, as almost every street corner will be able to serve you.

Hafeni Traditional Restaurant

To tickle your taste buds, Hafeni’s Traditional Restaurant is a must-visit. It also offers the township feeling as it is in the heartbeat of Swakopmund’s popular township of Mondesa, precisely in Lukas Nehoya Street.

“Being the only licensed traditional restaurant in the township where locals and tourists meet, we specialise in delicious traditional meals of Namibia”, restaurant owner Heinrich Hafeni says.

He adds that they not only offer delicious meals, but make sure that they give their clients a clean, safe and top service delivery joint. “So, come through and experience the happy place of Hafeni’s Traditional Restaurant. You won’t be disappointed,” he beams.

The Tug Restaurant

The Tug Restaurant first opened its doors during December 1993. Starting out as a small beachfront restaurant on the edge of the wild Atlantic Ocean, with splendid views of the iconic Swakopmund jetty, The Tug has become a culinary destination for travellers from around the globe. Special delights from the Namibian ocean include Kingklip, Kabeljou, Lobsters, John Dory and local Oysters. Dry-aged meat cuts are exclusively matured, including Beef fillet, Rump and Sirloin.

“Try our perfectly slow-roasted Lamb Shanks or one of our vegetarian dishes, and end the night off with one of our delicious deserts,” The Tug says.

Fork and Nice food truck

This is an American-style food truck in Swakopmund with favourites like pulled pork sandwiches, beer batter fish & chips, crumbed calamari and super wraps. Come and try it out.

For the Sushi lovers

This chef literally comes to your house to make your sushi in the comfort of your home.  You have the option to either buy your ingredients, or I bring my own and charge you accordingly. “Are you looking for something unique to do this holiday? Book a sushi night with chef Filemon. Learn to make your own sushi…or relax and have him serve you and your guests. In the comfort of your own home in Swakop or Walvis Bay,” chef Filemon says.

The Dockside Grill

The Dockside Seafood and Grill is one of the very few restaurants in Namibia where the owner with 35 years’ experience is still your chef, so you will taste the extra mile in every meal.

Theuns Duvenhage says his restaurant, located at the waterfront at Walvis Bay, can serve up to 97 different dishes like fresh seafood, sushi, grills, five different Gordon blues, burgers and pizzas. We are sure you will definitely find something that tickles your taste buds.

We also have a chef’s recommendation menu. All signature dishes are from our head chef, and you’ll never get it in any other restaurant in Namibia. It’s a must-try if you visit Dockside Seafood and Grill, while watching your favourite sport or just enjoying the beautiful Namibian sunset.

The  Savory Spoon

The Savory Spoon offers amazing platters that are beautifully presented and delicious to boot. “Savory Spoon caters for both family groups and couples. So, it does not matter whether it’s a day at the beach with your most favourite person, a gift meal, a game night, or even if you’re hosting a soiree”.
