Home Time Out German-Namibia weeks officially launches today

WINDHOEK– To celebrate an important historic relationship between German and Namibia, the Global Experience e.V. alongside the German Embassy in Windhoek will present a join music video that focus on the reconciliation of  young united generations.

The video is made up of of Namibian students, local artists EES and Oviritje legends Ongoro Nomundu and will first screen at the grand opening event of the German Weeks 2015 today at the Goethe-Centre. The video will only broadcast on YouTube after the screening on the opening day. This project also includes media educational workshops with the four cooperating schools as well as an interview series on Namibian streets about Namibian culture and identity.

The activities that will take place during the opening include live music, mini-basketball, creative activities for kids and many tasty foods. The event is open to the public and will start at 12h00 until 18h00. Following the opening including musical and theatre performances by DHPS-students, numerous stalls will present information on development cooperation, sports promotion, the work of political foundations and cultural cooperation in Namibia.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will show films presenting their activities in the areas of land reform and the fight against HIV andAIDS, the Deutsche Welle Akademie will present an on-camera media training at their booth, the Basketball Artists School provides everyone with an opportunity to try out their skills with a basketball, short sneak-peek courses in German and Oshiwambo provide insight into language teaching at the Goethe-Centre, and a clown show will make children laugh. Those who just want to relax can listen to readings for adults and children in different languages or at a concert by Lize Ehlers, who will be on stage in the afternoon.

A panel discussion  follows from 16h00 until 17h30 on the topic of “Rethinking Namibian-German Relations” in the framework of the DAAD Alumni meeting. Christopher Springate (DW) and Tangeni Amupadhi (The Namibian) will moderate a discussion with guests such as Professor  Joseph Diescho, Proessor Marianne Zappen-Thomson, the Director for Sub – Saharan Africa and the Sahel in the German Foreign Office, Ambassador Georg Schmidt, and artist Alpheus Mvula. The event organisers promise fun, new insights and enjoyment for everyone. Entrance is free.
