Go-karting tourney attracts international competition

Go-karting tourney attracts international competition

The third leg of the national Go-karting tournament will take place this weekend, with international participants expected to grace the circuit.

The event will take place at the Tony Rust racetracks in Windhoek, with over 30 participants expected to battle it out for the honours. The event is sanctioned by the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMF) in Namibia, and promoted by Big Boys Racing (BBR).

The tournament is an annual event, and this year’s competition will see participants as young as six years and up to 40 years old taking part.

Bradley Ferreira, a representative of the NMF, says this weekend’s event will be different from past events as they have received an overwhelming number of entries, and anticipate a very competitive event.

“We had a successful event last weekend, and this weekend we are back again. This Saturday, we are hosting another exciting event where we expect stiff competition.

“We have six participants from Angola who are already in Windhoek and are ready for the competition. I believe having international participants, including those from Angola, shows how big our events have become, and how our standards have gone up. We expect the event to live up to the organisers’ expectations,” he said.

Meanwhile, JP Josephat, the coach of Russell Josephat, the reigning champion in the Bambino category, said the event is a huge opportunity for locals to showcase their ability on the circuit.

Josephat added: “We prepared well for this event but not as much as we would have wanted. We had limited time on our hands, but we hope to reach the podium after the races,” he said.

Cecil Koots, who will have two of his riders at the event, said he is ready. “We prepared the whole week long, and I can say we are ready to put up a great performance against tough opponents who have flown in to compete in this exciting competition,” he said.
