Golden Girls on course in Khomas netball league

The Golden Girls remained on track to win the first division of the Khomas Netball League at the weekend.

The team’s coach, Jacky Hartman, said they had gone into the match with the main goal of earning points.

“We are taking each game as it comes, with hopes of collecting maximum points in each and every game we play,” she said.

Saturday’s win keeps the police team at the top of the first division, while another team they lead is also number one in the premier division of the Khomas League. According to Hartman, both teams hope to win their respective divisions.

“I am generally pleased with our performance in the league this season. It hasn’t been easy, but we have proved ourselves. Now we find ourselves at the top of both the first division and the Super 10. This demonstrates how strong our team is this season,” she said.

Although their primary goal is to be crowned champions, Hartman emphasised that focus and discipline are still essential.

“We are not getting carried away. We are focused on winning the remaining matches. We hope to win both the Premier and First Division at the end of the season, but we will have to be disciplined, and that’s what we have told the girls,” she added.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Nust edged Afrocats Lions in a thrilling game, winning convincingly 37-22, while United recorded a dominant 67-13 victory over Zebra Force.

In the second division, TC Gladiators defeated United A 25-16, while Nust beat City of Windhoek 48-23.

Meanwhile, Afrocats coach Dimitri Bittler said he was disappointed with the weekend’s results but said the team is determined to turn things around.

“We didn’t like the outcome, it was not the result we had prepared for, but in sport you always face setbacks. We are taking this as a learning curve, especially for some of the younger players who are still adjusting to the intensity of the league,” he said.

He added that despite the loss, the team showed positive signs they can build on.

“There were moments in the game when we really pushed and matched our opponents, so we know the potential is there. We just need to be more consistent and disciplined. I believe the girls will bounce back stronger in the coming matches, and our focus now is on improving with every game,” he said.
