Golden Girls moved a step closer to clinching the Khomas Netball League title after beating close rivals Gomonate Fellas 40-29 in an exciting clash on Saturday.
Head coach Jacky Ortman expressed delight with the team’s performance, saying the players had made her proud as they edge closer to realising their dream of reaching the top-flight premier league.
“As a coach, my heart is overflowing with joy. Saying I am proud would be an understatement, this is huge for the girls. We have moved a step closer to sealing the league title. It hasn’t been an easy season, but the girls kept proving they want to play top-flight netball. We will remain focused and not get carried away by the excitement,” Ortman said.
Although the league has not yet released official log standings, Saturday’s result the police team extend their lead at the top and remain firmly in control heading into the final matches.
“I want us to keep the momentum. We don’t want the results to get into the players’ heads but rather stay on track and finish strong,” Ortman added.
In other results, Gomonate Fellas beat Unam 41-29 on Thursday, while Nust edged Wanderers 38-37. In the first division, Nust crushed Zebra Force 48-19.
Meanwhile, league representative Dimitri Bittler says the season has produced some of the most thrilling contests in recent memory.
“We have witnessed some really exciting match-ups as the league reaches climax. The intensity has been incredible, with teams pushing each other to the limit every weekend. This level of competition is what we want to see because it raises the standard of the league and motivates players to keep improving. Fans have also been treated to quality netball, which is a big positive for the growth of the game in Namibia,” Bittler said.
