The FNB Women’s Super League showcased a competitive and talented display of women’s football this weekend at the Windhoek Technical High School and Julinho Athletic sports fields in Windhoek.

Despite the sport often being underrated, the players proved the high level of competition and development within the league.

This highlights the potential for international recognition as reflected in the Brave Gladiators’ recent success at the Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa.

In a display of undeniable talent and undisputed championship talent, the NDF Mighty Gunners FC, coached by former Brave Gladiators player Salome Iyambo, defeated Desert Foxes FC 7 goals to 1.

Despite the impressive victory, coach Iyambo expressed disappointment in the girls for not playing according to their game plan.

She said that the instructions were not followed and the game plan did not work out as it could have.

“Perhaps the long weekend had an impact, but we will work on improving going forward,” Iyambo said.

Showing that women’s football gets as tactical as men’s football, she pointed out areas of improvement that she and her team will be working on, going forward.

“We want to see positional discipline, and we want the ball to be carried through while players hold their positions. There should be less dribbling and more purposeful forward movement, breaking lines as they have been instructed so far,” she stated.

In another display of action, Arrows Ladies defeated Mighty Angels 3 goals to none.

Arrows Ladies FC head coach Salomon ‘Eto’O’ Nakale displayed great sportsmanship by congratulating head coach Paulus Ashipala of Mighty Angels FC for his team’s efforts despite the loss.

“They are just as youthful as we are as footballers. Therefore, I had set my team up in a tactically beneficial way that got us the win, but nonetheless, congratulations to them for their competitiveness,” Nakale said.

At the time of going to print, results of round 13 were not yet available.
