Hit-and-run claims life in Kongola

KATIMA MULILO – A Namibian man lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Kongola area of the Zambezi region.

Confirming the incident yesterday, Zambezi police regional commander Commissioner Andreas Shilelo said the accident happened around 06h00 on Road 349 near the Lizauli Road in the general area of Ngonga in Kongola.

“The only incident under investigation by the Namibian Police relates to a Namibian male, identified as Duma Kebisiyama, born in 1992, and a resident of Amen village in the Ngonga area,” Shilelo said.

Police said the victim was found lying dead on the road at approximately 06h09.

Preliminary investigations indicate that he was allegedly struck by a vehicle, whose driver fled the scene.

“No vehicle was found at the scene, and based on the primary investigation, the matter is being treated as a hit-and-run accident,” Shilelo confirmed.

The deceased was identified by a relative.

A case of culpable homicide has since been registered at Menias Brian Libuto Police Station in Kongola.

Police said have launched a manhunt for the vehicle suspected to have been involved in the incident.

Addressing allegations circulating within the Kongola community that the body was found with missing body parts, Shilelo dismissed the claims.

“The body parts of the deceased were intact. Nothing was removed,” he clarified.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding the incident or the vehicle involved to come forward and assist with the investigation.
