The weekend crime report recorded various incidents ranging from fatal road accidents and violent robberies to sexual offences, drug-related arrests and tragic deaths involving children.
Fatal accidents
At Omatjete, Penouua Nombuiro Kamunguma, a 36-year-old driver of a white Land Rover vehicle and Jennevy Herunga, aged 35 Namibian female passenger died after the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.
In Omaruru, a collision between a VW Jetta and a BMW claimed three lives and left others seriously injured. A separate accident in Ohangwena claimed a passenger’s life after the vehicle overturned following a tyre burst.
Violent crimes
In Outjo, the body of a 21-year-old woman was found with multiple head wounds in a suspected murder, while in Arandis, a man survived an attempted murder after being stabbed.
Sexual offences
On Saturday around 13h00 at Oshihiindongo village in Onesi constituency, it is alleged that the 28-year-old Namibian male suspect, who is a neighbour to a 13-year-old female disabled victim, took her from where she was sleeping to one of the sleeping rooms of the house, put her on the bed, and had sexual intercourse with her without a consent.
Other rape cases were reported across the country, including incidents in Katutura, Otjiwarongo, Ongwediva and Otjinandima. Some suspects have been arrested, while others remain at large, with investigations ongoing.
Theft
In Klein Windhoek, it is alleged that around six unknown men wearing balaclavas lifted the gate from the rail and gained entry into the house, held two victims at knifepoint and robbed them of the following goods/properties, including four laptops, three cellphones, one computer and cash amount of N$5 000. All valued at N$155 000.
In Katutura, it is alleged that the suspects unlawfully and intentionally pulled the complainant to the ground, hit him with a pistol grip in the face, and took US$1 800 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy A07. All valued at N$27 000.
Drugs
At Keetmanshoop, a 34-year-old Namibian male suspect was arrested after it was alleged that he brought food and two 1 litre of Omaere milk. Upon inspection in the presence of the suspect, police found 13 bankies of Cannabis weighing 21 grams, valued at N$1 050.00 inside and seized it. The suspect was expected to appear in court yesterday.
In Tutaleni, a police officer is wanted for allegedly smuggling cannabis into holding cells.
Deaths
In Ohangwena, a lightning strike that killed a 16-year-old boy in Onamukulo, and the drowning of a seven-year-old boy in Maltahöhe. Next of kin were informed in all cases.
Corruption
In Aranos, police officers were arrested on charges including corruption, stock theft and reckless driving after allegedly abusing their position following a vehicle accident.
