Known for entertaining visitors at the coast during festive seasons, Bank Windhoek will again host its annual Coastal Summer Festival, which officially started yesterday with casual formalities and ends on Sunday, with thrilling sports action at the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Henties Bay.

As has become tradition, local and international holidaymakers at the coast will be looking forward to the various fun-filled activities lined up for this year’s festival, which will feature volleyball action, golf and chess mini tourneys, amongst others.

Top of the list will be the Henties Bay Open Golf Day tournament, which will consist of 36 holes and will take place on Saturday at the town’s golf course.

The tournament takes place annually at Henties Bay and remains a big highlight for all golf fanatics at the coast and surrounding towns. For more information on the Henties Bay Open Golf Day tournament, would-be participants are encouraged to contact Des van Heerden at 0811251510.

Meanwhile, volleyball activities are also lined up for Saturday when the annual Beach Bash Volleyball event takes place at Long Beach at Swakopmund, which will see sides with a maximum of six players per team competing for a total prize of N$21 000.

Activities will continue on Saturday at the Swakopmund Municipal Training Centre where players square off in the annual Kehat Beukes Legacy Chess tournament. The tourney will start on Saturday and end on Sunday, and international travellers and the best local chess players will compete for top honours over nine rounds of mind-boggling action.

Each round will last for 50 minutes and the players will be subjected to World Chess Federation rules over all arbitration matters. For more information on the chess tourney, participants can contact Charles Eichab at 081 623 8160.

Touching on the readiness and excitement around the anticipated event, Bank Windhoek head of corporate social responsibility and sponsorship Bronwyn Moody assured that they are well set and ready to host participants and encouraged holidaymakers to participate in the upcoming events.

She also advised all participants and travellers to be vigilant of fraudsters at the same time, as many swindlers target these platforms to commit crimes and various frauds.

“As we celebrate the festive season, we request all Namibians to be vigilant as this is the best way to fight fraud during the festive season. Remember, never share your personal banking information such as your PIN with anyone, not even a bank official or security guards at ATMs. Let’s go out there and enjoy the games,” she said.
