Lights back on at Omuthiya hospital

ONGWEDIVA - New light bulbs have been finally installed at the Omuthiya District Hospital after months of darkness.

It is alleged that patients have been attended to in the dark as the hospital’s light sockets were not compatible with locally available bulbs. The correct light bulbs could only be procured from China.

The director of health in the Oshikoto region Joshua Nghipangelwa confirmed to New Era that new bulbs were procured and installed at the cost of
N$100 000.

According to Nghipangelwa, the new bulbs are perfectly working and the situation is back to normal.

The issue of lights at Omuthiya District Hospital was shocking as patients, including mothers delivering babies at night, and those who needed emergency operations, were being attended to with cellphone lights.

Admitted patients also escaped the dark hospital at night as nurses and other hospital staff had no control over them.

Nurses who spoke to this publication also confirmed that the problem has been solved and service delivery is back to normal.
