Man dies in sewage pipe

A man drowned in the Greenwell Matongo residential area while trying to unblock a sewage drain at about 14h00 on Saturday.

The victim was a 32-year-old employee of MJ Engineering cc.

The Khomas police reported the victim and three colleagues were busy unblocking the sewage drain when he decided to climb inside the drain to unplug a blocked pipe.

His colleagues allegedly heard the victim saying he is losing strength.

He then allegedly fell into the water inside the drain, and the colleagues could not do anything to help.

His next of kin are yet to be informed.

In a separate incident, the Khomas police reported the death of Hilda Hamanyala (48) by suicide.

She was found by her husband at around 6h00 on Saturday, hanging in the living room of the house she shared with her family along Aroab street in the Havana informal settlement of the capital.

No suicide note was found.

According to the husband, his wife attempted suicide several times before whenever she was under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, the Oshikoto police launched a case of rape and possible incest after a 60-year-old man allegedly raped his 14-year-old daughter under coercive circumstances since April this year.

According to Oshikoto police spokesperson Ellen Nehale, the incident occurred at the Onembenhe village in the area of Onankali.

It is alleged the suspect, who is the biological father of the victim, in the absence of her mother, who works in Windhoek, used to call the victim to his sleeping room to massage him.

It is reported that he, in the process, had sexual intercourse with the victim several times under coercive circumstances.

After the victim observed the situation becoming worse, she reported the incident to her mother.

The suspect is arrested, and investigations into the matter continue.
