Rössing to support employees

Rössing Uranium officially announced a sponsorship to four of its employees participating in the Nedbank Desert Dash competition.

Rössing Corporate Communication Manager Daylight Ekandjo announced on Friday that this is the first-ever Rössing team participating in the event and will be dressed in Rössing Uranium-branded cycling kits.

Ekandjo said, as an advocate for employee health and wellness, “we are proud to announce our sponsorship to four employees participating in the tough Nedbank Desert Dash cycling event slated for 8 December 2023.

She added that the Nedbank Desert Dash stands as one of the most demanding cycling events, spanning a staggering distance of 397 kilometres from Windhoek. Through this race, cyclists cross harsh terrains, offering them an intense test of physical and mental fortitude.

“Our sponsorship reinforces the company’s ethos of prioritising employee well-being and fostering a culture that encourages active lifestyles and personal development.

“We are proud of our team and that we could sponsor them in their pursuit of this remarkable challenge,” said Ekandjo.

The sponsored cycling kits include specialised gear tailored to the demands of the Nedbank Desert Dash, ensuring that the participants have the necessary equipment to tackle the rigorous race conditions safely and comfortably.

“Rössing Uranium recognises the dedication, determination, and spirit exhibited by these four individuals taking on such a daunting physical challenge. We stand firmly behind them, acknowledging their commitment to personal fitness goals and embracing challenges that embody resilience and perseverance.

Meanwhile, the PurpleDot Project, the brainchild of a dedicated private nurse practitioner who specialises in stoma care (herself an ostomate), has also received support from the race title sponsors.

A stoma is a surgical opening created for the elimination of waste.

These include colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy.

The PurpleDot team comprises Doctors Frikkie Botha and Karl Frielingsdorf, who are both based in Namibia and Professors Chris Mulder and Maarten Jacobs, who are based in the Netherlands.

They find time to train in contrasting environments, from the cold, muddy terrains of Amsterdam to the rugged landscapes of Windhoek.

Speaking about the training, Dr Botha remarked: “The most significant challenge we face is finding the time to train extensively, given the extremely long hours we work.

This is crucial to preparing ourselves for a major event like the Nedbank Desert Dash.”

Nedbank’s sponsorship of the PurpleDot Team in the Nedbank Desert Dash has been crucial because it provides the financial backing that will enable the team to participate while also bringing a spotlight to the cause.

“Nedbank’s support has significantly impacted the team’s efforts through their contribution to the Davin Sports Trust,” Dr Botha said.

The PurpleDot Project, through its dedicated team and impactful mission, is making strides in transforming the landscape of stoma care and social acceptance in Namibia.

Their participation in the Nedbank Desert Dash, backed by Nedbank’s support, exemplifies the power of collaboration and dedication in addressing complex health and social issues.
