Jeremia Jeremia, 22, and Marvellous Shilongo, 20, were respectively crowned as Mr Handsome and Miss Beauty over the weekend at the University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The pageant was part of NUST’s 20th annual cultural festival (2016), which started last Monday and ended over the weekend with the crowning of the two.

Celebrated under the theme ‘Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder’, NUST vice chancellor explained the event as “an important statement that allows for and acknowledges the right of everyone to express what he or she considers beautiful.

One of the finalists, Dionisius Shilyomunhu, 20, expressed concern over the lack of interest among fellow male students participating in this year’s pageant. “There was not enough participation, making it easier for one to qualify as a male finalist,” Shilyomunhu remarked.

Various Namibian cultures were represented and demonstrated by finalists during the dancing performances carried by couples in cultural attire.

Finalists were furthermore judged on their appearance (modeling in cultural outfits, swimwear and modern fashion), as well answering questions.

Two additional prices awarded to Mr and Miss Congeniality and Photogenic, as well as to the first and second princes and princesses.
Well-known local artists entertained the crowd on the night with captivating musical performances.
