Katjake Denies RDP Links

A Swapo Party member, Simon Vemuesa Katjake, claims that his name was illegally put on the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) list submitted to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for the party’s registration.

Katjake, who is number 101 and registered from Omaheke, on Monday afternoon informed New Era that his name was put on the list without his consent. He is not a member of the new party.

Katjake further charged that his signature was forged and the signature appearing on the RDP list is definitely not his.

A visibly annoyed Katjake said he only learnt about his name being on the list after people started asking him about the party.

Katjake said a former Swapo Party regional leader in Otjombinde, Kauromundu Kandetu, approached his wife and requested his voter’s card.

Katjake said his wife handed the card to Kandetu because she thought it was for party (Swapo) purposes, only to discover that he used it to register him for the RDP.

Katjake said when he confronted Kandetu about the issue, he was apologetic and said he thought that because he was the leader of Katjake in Swapo, the latter would automatically follow him to the new party.

Katjake vowed that he is still a Swapo member and will die a party member.
