Erwin Katjizeu, the head of delegation for the Omaheke regional council sports team, said the team’s outstanding success at the Regional Council Sports Awareness Games (RCSAG) was due to the collective effort of both staff and management of the regional council.
The event was recently held in the Hardap region
The Omaheke team excelled by winning gold in the tug of war against a strong Oshana Regional Council team.
It also took gold in the 100 metre (m) men’s race.
The team earned a silver medal in the women’s 200m sprint, along with another silver in the women’s penalty shootouts.
The region’s men’s soccer team also performed exceptionally well when they finished as runners-up in the competition after a hard-fought final against the champions, Kunene Regional Council team.
Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, the head of delegation said the team preparation, unity and determination to represent Omaheke with pride stood out as key drivers of its achievements in the Hardap region.
Katjizeu, the councillor for the Otjinene constituency, said the event’s initiative goes beyond competition.
He added that it is a platform where staff members from all regional councils came together.
The head of delegation said that despite the team’s competing for honours, members created a network among themselves, built stronger relationships with one another and relaxed at the prestigious event.
“Omaheke region not only demonstrated sporting excellence but also embodied the values of teamwork, unity and collaboration,” said Katjizeu.
He emphasised that the outstanding performance at the just-ended event reflects the depth of sporting talent within the Omaheke Regional Council.
“This achievement also serves as a strong reminder that when we support and invest in our people, excellence follows,” said the Otjinene councillor.
