The long-awaited Namibian feature film ‘Katutura’ will finally hit the big screen in Windhoek this November for a week of screenings at Ster Kinekor, Grove Mall.

The movie will start screening on Friday, November 20, until Thursday November 26, every day at half past five in the evening (17h30).

Director Florian Schott and Producer Obed Emvula used the time after Katutura’s world premiere in January to re-look at the film with some distance and decided to go back into the editing suite.

The re-edited and re-mixed final film is 12 minutes shorter than the version that premiered in front of over a thousand people nine months ago.

Following the premiere, the producers engaged a number of international partners for deals that will be announced at a later stage. The negotiations also prevented the film from being screened earlier.

“The danger of the film leaking was too high to risk losing out on the chance to bring Katutura to cinemas and film festivals around the world,” said Schott. He further said: “At this point the Namibian public should finally get a chance to watch this homegrown film.”

In the coming months, Katutura will travel throughout Namibia, as well as to international film festivals before it comes out on BluRay and DVD next year.
