WINDHOEK – The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) on Saturday stylishly joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Cancer Day when it hosted the ladies doubles tennis tournament at the Central Tennis Club in Olympia.
The tournament attracted more than 24 local female tennis players to support and add more spark to the event. The following tennis double matches were played in round robin format in two groups. The first group consisted of five teams and the second group of seven pairs. Matches taking place in almost perfect tennis weather were only interrupted by a light lunch break and lasted up to 3h30 p.m.
The winning team in the red group was Melissa Gilles and partner Jolanda Amoraal who had the upper hand over Moizelle Barnard and Sonja Martins. In the second group Alet Laubscher partnering with Corne Steenkamp beat runner-ups Kirsten Schreiber and MaryBeth Gallagher by only two points. During the price giving ceremony NTA CEO, Laurie Peters thanked the many sponsors who made the event a truly memorable one and allowed every participating player to walk away with a price.
