ONGWEDIVA – The Ongwediva Town Council has placed land delivery and service expansion among its top priorities in the 2026/2027 financial year budget.
Mayor Naemi Amuthenu has announced that Council has budgeted more than N$1.7 million for land delivery projects aimed at speeding up the availability of plots in the town.
The planned projects include the cadastral survey of Area West Extension 19, subdivision of erven near Nexus, replanning of encroached erven in Hannover and township establishment west of Hannover.
Council also plans to establish four new township extensions behind Extension 13 near David Shikomba Complex, as well as informal planning at the Onawa West of Extension 19.
To support the development, Council has further budgeted N$30 million for service infrastructure, such as water, electricity, roads and lighting in different extensions of the town.
Some of the projects include water reticulation in Extension 17 and Omatando Extension 1, electricity network installation in Extension 12, and high mast lights at Okandjengedi Settlement Area.
Road upgrades will also continue, including the upgrading of Abraham Nyambali Street and Elyambala Street.
Amuthenu said the projects are aimed at improving living conditions, speeding up urban development, and meeting the growing demand for land and municipal services in Ongwediva.
The Council has also budgeted N$5 million for crop field compensation linked to land development projects.
