WINDHOEK – With the rainy season heavy on us, Woema noticed a number of vehicles being towed due to mechanical breakdowns. As such, it is advised to follow these rules when planning to tow your vehicle:
The length of the tow-rope, chain or tow-bar between the two vehicles must not exceed 3,5m.
The towed vehicle must be securely connected to the towing vehicle and be under proper control.
A driver with an appropriate licence must be in control of the towed vehicle, except if the steerable wheels of the towed vehicle are being carried clear of the ground or if the steerable wheels of the towed vehicle are controlled by such drawbar or tow-bar.
In case the brakes of the towed vehicle are defective, the towing vehicle must be connected to the towed vehicle by means of a drawbar or tow-bar.
You may not exceed the speed of 30 km/h, unless the towing vehicle is connected to the towed vehicle by means of a drawbar or a tow-bar
No passenger may be carried in the towed vehicle if such vehicle travels at a speed of more than 30 km/h, unless the towed vehicle is a semi-trailer.
