Man bitten by snake in police cells

The Hardap police reported that an inmate being held in their custody was bitten by a snake that slithered into their cells unnoticed on Saturday at the Maltahohe police station at about 01h33.

“It is alleged that the victim, a 44-year-old trial-awaiting inmate, was bitten on the lower left arm by a black-necked cobra. It is unknown how the snake entered the police cells, and the victim was first transported to the Mariental State Hospital and later transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in a stable condition,’’ the Namibian Police said in their weekly crime report.

The snake was killed, and police investigations continue.

A drowning incident was reported to the police at Seeis in the Khomas region, which allegedly happened on Friday at 13h00 at the Otjivero Namwater Dam at Omitara.  “It is alleged that 12-year-old Namibian Rodney Kenamuntjo drowned while swimming in the dam with others. His body was recovered by members of the Namibian Police Reserve Force at about 18h20,” the police noted. The next of kin were informed, and
police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, at around 15h00 at Engela laShikondongolo village in the Ohangwena region on Friday, a 42-year-old man inflicted multiple wounds and deep cuts on the body of his nine-year-old daughter. It is alleged that the suspect cut the girl on her head and body with a panga. The incident occurred during
the evening when the father of the
victim came home from the local cucashops, and found out that about
nine eggs had been eaten by the victim. He thus reacted by allegedly cutting the victim with the panga. She was taken to the Eenhana District Hospital,
and is described to be in a stable condition. The man was arrested.
