A 32-year-old man died when the car he was driving collided with another oncoming vehicle.
The accident occurred at Shipepe on the main road between Ondangwa and Ongwediva. It is alleged that the driver of a Toyota Corolla was driving from Ondangwa, heading to Ongwediva.
The Regional Commander of Oshana Commissioner Rauha Amwele said that the 32-year-old was trying to avoid an accident when he collided with an oncoming Toyota bakkie.
The commissioner noted that the deceased’s car had three passengers who escaped unharmed.
“The driver of the bakkie was driving alone and did not sustain injuries. He was driving a car from the Ministry of Health and Social Services, from the Zambezi Region. He was coming from Oshakati and heading to Ondangwa,” Amwele continued.
Amwele added that another Corolla from the direction of Ondangwa crashed straight into the cars involved in the accident, but no one was hurt. She however stated that the Corolla was damaged.
The next of kin have not yet been informed.
Meanwhile, the police in Onayena have arrested a 50-year-old deaf man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at Okaonde village in Onayena.
The incident occurred on May 01, but the suspect had not been arrested at the time due to a lack of interpreters. Thus, he was only arrested yesterday.
According to the Crime Coordinator of Oshikoto Region, Naomi Katjiua, the suspect had sexual intercourse with the victim under coercive circumstances in the bush.The time of rape is unknown to the police.
