Leading financial services group MMI Holdings Namibia is recruiting school leavers and jobseekers for its innovative new Cadet Trainee Leadership Programme.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 will be able to gain valuable working experience, enhancing their skills and increasing their employability. The six-month learning programme is designed to assist school leavers, who aim to make a career in the financial services sector.
MMI Holdings Namibia has expressed its desire to support the government’s Youth Enterprise Development initiatives in the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP).
Highlighting data, which shows that over one-third of the 28.1% of people unemployed in Namibia are the youth, MMI Namibia is hoping to harness this capacity and ensure that youmg people have a valuable role to play in propelling employment creation and SME-driven economic growth.
Through the Cadet Trainee Leadership Programme, MMI Holdings Namibia aims to narrow the divide between education and the real working environment. Namibia, like many African countries, is experiencing a huge skills shortage.
According to the 2015/2016 Global Competitiveness Report, Namibia’s labour market is not as efficient as it should be, with an inadequately educated workforce and poor work ethic in labour, listed as some of the most problematic factors for doing business in Namibia.
Group CEO of MMI Holdings Namibia Jason Nandago said: “This programme forms part of our social responsibility of uplifting the youth and addressing the needs of the labor market. MMI Holdings must invest in the communities it operates in to become the preferred financial wellness partner in Namibia.
“The company believes, we are meeting a need in assisting many Grade 12 learners that are unable to pursue further studies due to limited availability of space and financial resources. It is difficult to grow any business without skilled people; hence this opportunity is afforded to young Namibians that will mostly take over future leadership positions.”
The programme will offer leadership-centred trainee opportunities in the areas of information technology, management and leadership, customer interface, specialist financial skills, as well as legislative compliance skills-related development.
Participants will also have an opportunity to experience different roles within the MMI Namibia, such as project management and coaching through job rotation and will be mentored by different management personnel. School leavers will have the chance to work on real projects and will, in exchange, receive a monthly stipend and a certificate at the end of the training.
The programme will commence with five cadets who will be placed within the MMI Group and its subsidiary branches, Metropolitan-Swabou, Methealth and Momentum across the country. Upon successful completion of the cadet training programme, the cadets will be required to immediately offer themselves for employment within the MMI Namibia Group for a period equal to the duration of the programme.
