Renowned boxing promoter Immanuel ‘AC’ Moses has made a passionate appeal for financial support as he prepares to stage two major boxing events featuring Namibia’s top talent.
Speaking at a press conference in Windhoek yesterday, Moses confirmed that Walter ‘Executioner’ Kaudondokwa will return to the ring to face Russia’s Vladimir Mironchikov in Tajikistan on 22 July. This bout marks Kaudondokwa’s long-awaited return after a lengthy break from competitive action.
“He’s back in the ring and ready to get into action. Everything is going well. I am looking forward to the fight and I just need to make sure I give my fans good results.”
Moses also announced that his next local boxing bonanza will take place on 16 August at the Roman Catholic Cathedral Hall in Windhoek. The bill promises 10 thrilling bouts and will be headlined by rising star Flame Nangolo, who is currently training in the United States in preparation for the fight.
Despite the enthusiasm and solid line-up, Moses stressed the financial burden of organising such high-level events. He revealed that the boxing bonanza will cost close to N$400 000, with expenses covering sanctioning fees, logistics, and athlete preparations.
“I am calling on sponsors, especially the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, to assist. I’ve been funding these events out of my pocket, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult,” he said.
The following fighters are scheduled to feature in the upcoming bonanza. Their opponents will be announced closer to the date:
Jona Shikukutu (Junior Welterweight), Philip Haoseb (Flyweight), Paulus Amavila (Welterweight), Robert Ndalelwa (Welterweight), Hafeni Ngesheya (Welterweight), Divas Namugongo (Light Heavyweight), Ruan Rasper (Lightweight), Charles Shinima (Welterweight), Harry Simon Jr (Welterweight) and Flame Nangolo (Junior Lightweight). -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
