The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor), in collaboration with its joint venture partners in Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL) areas 56, 83, 85 and 90, are set to commence drilling between the last quarter of 2024, and the first quarter of 2025.
The drilling will entail four exploration and appraisal wells in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.
In a media statement issued yesterday, Namcor noted that this increase in upstream oil and gas activities follows successful discoveries since 2022.
In addition, insight gained from recent well data and newly-acquired 3D seismic surveys has also caused an upsurge in activities.
“Equally, the onshore drilling campaign continues to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Kavango Basin in PEL 73. While the Orange Basin has shown considerable promise, geophysical and geological studies further indicate hydrocarbon potential within the Lüderitz, Walvis and Namibe Basins,” Namcor stated.
Namcor added that as a result, the company and its joint venture partners continue conducting detailed studies in these basins to evaluate and de-risk areas with potential hydrocarbon accumulations.
“There are no planned wells in the Lüderitz, Walvis or Namibe Basins. However, geophysical and geological analyses are ongoing to identify and assess hydrocarbon prospectivity within these basins. Namcor remains committed to supporting the sustainable development of Namibia’s upstream sector, enhancing the nation’s energy security and contributing to the local economy,” the statement reads.
