Namdia boosts hockey with massive sponsorship

Namibia’s leading diamond marketing company Namdia yesterday gave the country’s senior women’s hockey team a massive boost ahead of their participation in the upcoming Hockey5s African Cup in Ismailia, Egypt.

The competition will take place from 10 to 15 December and will serve as the continent’s qualifying event for the 2024 Hockey5s World Cup set for Muscat, Oman.

It will be Namibia’s first time to compete in the upcoming Hockey5s African Cup, and Namdia yesterday made it even more historic for the team with a timely sponsorship of N$445 000 to help with preparations and related logistics.

Namdia CEO Alisa Amupolo said they were proud to lend a helping hand to the national hockey side and reiterated that it was not their first time supporting sports.

“We believe in the team, and their track record of being ranked ninth in the world speaks for itself. It’s super incredible and it is an honour and privilege to support them with this sponsorship. We wish them great success for the upcoming event,” said Amupolo.

The team’s coach Erwin Handura said mechanisms are in place to ensure they put Namibia on the map by giving a good account of themselves in Egypt.

“We have embraced a very strategic method by playing and training with the male hockey teams. This is because males are physically stronger and the aim is to give our ladies a bit of a challenge; both physically and mentally. We are ready and want to say thank you to Namdia,” he said.
