Namibia to partake in regional E-sports champs…qualifiers set for this weekend

E-sports is once again making great strides, as Namibia was invited to participate in the inaugural Southern Africa Region E-sports Championships, scheduled to take place from 3 to 4 December 2022 in Lilongwe, Malawi.

This championship will this year for the first time be part of the Region 5 Youth Games as a demonstration title – and events such as E-football and Street Fighter 5 will be on full display.

Following the invitation, the Namibian Electronic Sports Association (NESA) announced that qualifiers to select Namibian champions that will represent the country at the regional games will be held this coming weekend at the MTC Innovation Centre, Maerua Mall, Windhoek.

Participants can register for this weekend’s event on the NESA website: https://nesaportal.org/

This year’s Southern Africa Region E-sports Championships is a joint project between the Africa Esports Development Federation (AEDF) and the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 to demonstrate holistic development strategies for E-sports in Africa through the values of equality, diversity, fair play, inclusion and innovation.

“NESA invites all Namibian citizens under the age of 20 to participate in the qualifiers and become the Namibian youth representative athlete at the championships. We sincerely thank the Namibian E-sports partner MTC for powering this event,” reads NESA’s statement.
