Namibians appear in Botswana for illegal fishing

KATIMA MULILO – Four Namibians apprehended on Saturday by the Botswana Police Service for allegedly fishing on the Botswana side of the Chobe River, appeared for the first time in that country’s Kasane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police regional crime investigations coordinator in Zambezi, Deputy Commissioner Albius Lyomba, on Tuesday confirmed that the accused, Salyonga Samuel (53), Melvin Nkawa (45), Billy Samuel (41) and Sydney Samuel (36), made a brief court appearance.

He said the men appeared on charges of fishing in an unauthorised area and illegal entry into Botswana, and the matter was postponed to 02 June 2026.

“The four were arrested during a patrol operation along the river which borders Namibia and Botswana,” he said.
