The councillor of the newly proclaimed constituency of Nehale Lyampingana, Leevi Reinholdt, conducts his official work from his car as the constituency is still without an office.
However, the office is being built at Omboto and is said to be near completion. The delay in the construction has been attributed to the long distance from Okongo where building materials are procured, and because of the sandy roads goods are transported by tractor.
Reinholdt said the lack of roads, schools and clinics in the constituency is the contributing factor to the slow development in the area.
He has only been in office for two and a half months.
The constituency has few schools and clinics and villagers have to walk 60 kilometres to the nearest school or clinic.
Reinholdt described the situation as deplorable saying it has hindered development and denied individuals the right to education as there are only a few schools and those available are far and inaccessible.
“These areas do not have roads; it is just sand all over which makes it difficult to reach certain areas. We lack the basic infrastructure that is needed to spearhead development and without that we cannot do anything – our hands are tied,” said Reinholdt.
Reinholdt is however optimistic that a number of proposed developments such as the Grade 1 and 2 classes under construction at Omboto will blow in a wind of change.
“This will bring a bit of change as the little ones were mostly affected by walking long distances, so we hope other grades will follow very soon at least to ease the distance. With the MTC towers which will soon be installed we will be united with the whole nation as we are completely cut off at the moment,” said Reinholdt.
Gravel roads will soon be constructed from Casablanca to Omboto, and from Omboto to Onalusheshete and Hedimbi, he added.
