Air Connect Namibia has welcomed a twice-weekly non-stop Edelweiss service between Zurich Airport (ZRH) and Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH). The new service commenced on Tuesday, 1 June 2026.
The introduction of the Zurich-Windhoek route is a landmark in Namibia’s efforts to strengthen ties with European markets. It also positions the country as an increasingly attractive gateway to Southern Africa.
Hosea Kutako International Airport currently serves 12 destinations through nine airlines. The addition of Edelweiss will expand the airport’s global reach and further boost its status as Namibia’s main international gateway.
While Fly Namibia remains the country’s leading airline offering flights to 17 destinations the arrival of Edelweiss adds a fresh European connection and broadens the options available for both tourists and local travellers.
“This new route is more than a flight, it’s a new bridge between Europe and Namibia. We are thrilled to welcome Edelweiss to Namibia. This connection elevates our country’s status as a global tourism and investment destination, and we are committed to ensure the route’s long-term success,” said Bisey /Uirab, chief executive officer of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC).
He added that, it also reflects the power of what they can achieve through the public-private collaboration that includes NAC, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), Gondwana Collection, the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), and the City of Windhoek. Switzerland is one of Windhoek’s largest European origin-destination (OD) markets, with an estimated 22 000 two-way international passengers in 2024 – a 7% increase on 2023.
“Namibia, with its stunning natural landscapes, vibrant cultural heritage, and reputation as a sustainable tourism leader, is well-positioned to become a top-tier destination for Swiss travellers. As a major European hub with world-class connectivity and a strong outbound leisure market, Zurich is an ideal gateway for expanding Europoean access to Namibia,” he said.
Air Connect Namibia, established in 2024 and led by the Namibia Airports Company (NAC), is a collaborative air service development initiative mandated to improve air access to the country. Project stakeholders include the Namibian Airports Company (NAC), Gondwana Collection, Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), Walvis Bay Corridor Group, Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and the City of Windhoek.
The initiative is committed to assisting and supporting carriers who service the country’s international airports.
