In efforts to unlock Fifa funding earmarked for the renovation and upgrade of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Centre, NFA is in advanced discussion with the City of Windhoek regarding the transfer of ownership of the land on which the facility stands.

NFA’s interim secretary general Cassius Moetie on Monday hosted a courtesy visit from the City’s delegation, led  by Windhoek mayor Ndeshihafela  Larandja.

Moetie highlighted the urgency of restoring the NFA Technical Centre, noting that it has long surpassed its intended lifespan.

“You will agree if I tell you that the facility has exceeded its lifespan up to 8-10 years now, and is not in a good state. The land is still not registered in the name of the NFA. We have reached out to Fifa, which has agreed to give money to renovate it,” he said.

Moetie added that while Fifa’s financial support is ready, the funds will only be released once the land ownership is formally transferred to the NFA.

“The money is on standby at Fifa to be wired to the NFA, but on condition that the land is transferred to the name of the NFA. Only then will Fifa release the funds for renovation,” he said.

“That is the conversation we are having with the City, and we are in the advanced stage. The mayor was here to see for herself. There is a management meeting with the City on schedule,” said Moetie. -zngaruka@yahoo.com
