By Kuvee Kangueehi GOBABIS Twelve teams from the first and second division moved into the quarterfinals of the Hansa Pilsner Cup after some exciting football at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis. Although most of the matches were evenly contested some teams demolished other teams mercilessly to book their place in the last eight. Flying Eagles went on a riot on Sunday afternoon as they crushed Revengers FC 12- 2. Pescanova also suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Onambula United when they lost 5-1. Pre-tournament favourites and Karas Region giants Try Again were also eliminated from the competition when they lost 2-1 on penalties to United Stars FC. The match was tied 2-2 after ninety minutes. The NBL’s sponsorship is N$ 500 000 and the competition is being played in various regions, while the quarterfinal showdown is slated for Rundu on 17 February, with the semi-final scheduled for Otjiwarongo on 17 March. The final will either take place at Walvis Bay or Mariental on 21 April. Meanwhile, in the MTC Namibia Premier League Civics FC regained its top position after humiliating Ramblers 3-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital. The champions collected maximum six points this weekend following another impressive victory against Tigers. Civics won the game 3-1 and are now back on track to clinch their third consecutive championship title. It was a disappointing weekend for Ramblers who were leading the log at the beginning of the weekend. The Pionierspark side on Saturday suffered a shock defeat at the hands of premier league rookies when they went down by a single goal at Rehoboth. Friends scored in the early minutes of the game and fought tooth and nail to preserve their lead to give them much-needed three points. New Orlando Pirates coach Ali Akan recorded his premier league victory for his new club Orlando Pirates when they beat African Stars 1-0 at the SKW Stadium on Friday evening. Also on Friday evening Black Africa beat SKW 2-0 to move up the log standing. Oshakati City is surprisingly occupying second position on the log after two impressive victories against Walvis Bay sides Blue Waters and Eleven Arrows on Saturday and Sunday respectively. City in enjoying home ground advantage beat Blue Waters 3-1 on Saturday before demolishing Arrows 2-1 at the same venue. Tigers FC who only managed to collect a single point this weekend are occupying third spot. Tigers after going down 3-1 at the hands of Civics managed to gain a point at Rehoboth following a goalless draw with the rejuvenated Friends FC. Outjo Eleven Arrows beat Golden Bees 1-0 to move three places up to seventh position on the log. Ramblers are fourth while Black Africa now occupy the fifth spot.
