Founding President Sam Nujoma this week congratulated Chinese leader Xi Jinping on his re-election as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for another five years.
“The results of the 20th anniversary congress of the CPC is a vote of confidence by the people of China in your sterling leadership as well as your ability to steer China well into the future, holding high the great banner of socialism, with Chinese characteristics, for a new era and striving in unity to lay out a new blueprint for national rejuvenation,” Nujoma said in a letter to Xi on Tuesday.
He said Xi’s re-election is a full recognition of the great achievements China has made under his leadership in the past five years amid global changes of a magnitude not seen in a century.
He further said this reflects the people of China’s firm confidence in the CPC’s policies of achieving comprehensive modernisation and enhancing people’s wellbeing under Xi’s wise leadership.
According to Nujoma, the 20th CPC National Congress is of great historical significance not only on the road leading towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation but also for the world’s progressive forces to continue to promote the realisation of peaceful development in the global community.
Nujoma reflected on China-Namibia relations and said the relationship is built on a historical legacy of friendship and partnership.
“We attach great importance to these relations and look forward to further strengthening friendly exchanges with the CPC and deepen cooperation as well as in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership to the benefit of our two countries and peoples,” Nujoma said.
Concluding his letter, Nujoma said, “on behalf of the veterans of our national liberation struggle, my family and indeed on my own behalf, I take this opportunity to renew to your excellency, general secretary Xi Jinping, our best wishes for your continued good health and renewed strength.”
