The much-anticipated fourth edition of the Omaheke Top 20 football tournament will kick off tomorrow at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
The popular competition, which brings together 20 village teams from Otjinene, Otjombinde, Aminuis, and Epukiro, continues to serve as a vital platform for showcasing rural football talent and creating pathways to higher levels of competition.
Tournament organiser Ngatuuane Hange confirmed that this year’s edition will focus solely on football. “We will only have football this year as the Khomasdal Stadium’s netball court is temporarily closed.
It has been challenging to secure sports fields in Windhoek, Gobabis, or even in the villages,” he explained.
A total of N$27 000 has been set aside for prizes in the football category. The champions will walk away with N$13 000, a trophy, and 20 gold medals, while the runners-up will receive N$7 000 and silver medals. The two losing semi-finalists will each take home N$3 500.
The tournament will begin with an early morning clash between Okauua Rising Stars and Oukango at 08h00.
Other exciting first-round fixtures include Secret Star ja Mungondo versus Otjinoko, Otjeue City against Okoutjove, and Life Ino City taking on Fire Eyes.
Defending champions Okatuuo from Epukiro will face Ozombaka Hamboumue za Tjiteke.
The day will also feature matches between Gauteng FC and Fine Young Stars, Okauua Rovers and Super Fox, and Ehungiro Swallows against Epata Fly Eagles, with Renambo Bucks closing off the round against Okovimburu.
