The final leg of the Ongos Sevens Rugby will take place this Saturday at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, marking the climax of an exciting three-leg tournament that has already visited Lüderitz and Swakopmund.
According to Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) board member Herman Rust, the competition will feature three pools of five teams each, followed by the semi-finals and finals, battling it out for the ultimate Sevens title. “An exciting addition this year is that there are two South African teams: the Assassins and Wits Barbarian, which are expected to contribute to the excitement on the day,” Rust said.
The event will also include a women’s exhibition match, adding to the action-packed lineup. Rust highlighted that Sevens rugby offers a thrilling experience for both players and fans.
“Sevens is a very fast type of sport, there’s a lot of excitement and a lot of space on the field to move around extremely fast,” he explained.
The series serves as a platform for players who may not feature regularly in 15-a-side rugby to showcase their talent. Rust noted that standout performances could pave the way for national selection, as Namibia gears up to participate in the upcoming African Sevens championships.
Spectators can look forward to a day of top-level rugby, entertainment, and plenty of fast-paced action as the 2025 Ongos Sevens champions are crowned.
