Despite securing the top spot in the league, Ongos FC coach Paulus Shipanga remains focused and determined as his team prepares for crucial weekend encounters.
Shipanga emphasised the importance of sustaining their current momentum during a press conference, where updates on the club’s status were provided.
During the press conference, Shipanga delved into the team’s standings in the league, expressing contentment with their unexpected position at the top.
Additionally, he shed light on Ongos FC’s commitment to nurturing future talent through a newly launched ‘talent search’ initiative. This programme aims to scout and identify potential football players, who can contribute to the club’s success in the long run.
Ongos FC currently leads the league with 22 points from nine matches, having won seven, lost one and drawn once.
While acknowledging their unexpected position at the top, Shipanga stressed the team’s original goal was to have a solid season and secure a place in the top five by the season’s end.
“We aimed to just have a good season, but we found ourselves leading the pack – and you know when you are leading, everyone comes for you. Our main motto for this season was to reach the top five by the end of the season,” Shipanga explained during the press conference.
Expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance, Shipanga highlighted the upcoming challenges against formidable opponents, Blue Waters and Okahandja United.
With key players returning from national duty, the coach expressed optimism about collecting maximum points, while acknowledging the competitive nature of their adversaries. “We have two difficult clashes this weekend – against Blue Waters and Okahandja United, who are both strong teams. It’s not going to be an easy weekend, but we are going to take it one game at a time. At the moment, we are ready for any challenge, and we are working on strategising how we will approach the matches,” Shipanga admitted.
