Organisers have hailed the third leg of the national go-karting tournament, held last Saturday at the Tony Rust circuits, as a resounding success.

The event attracted more than 30 competitors, including six international entrants, and was sanctioned by the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMF).

Chucky van Dyk was the overall winner of the elite men’s category, amassing a total of 102 points, followed by Dylan Zandberg with 97 points, while Toni Rust finished third with 92 points.

The annual tournament saw participants ranging in ages of six to 40 years competing this year. Reflecting on the results, Bradley Ferreira, a representative of the NMF, said the event had lived up to expectations.

“This was the third leg of six to determine the champions of 2025. Of course, one of the highlights was having two young girls who competed in a certain category and eventually finished second and third, respectively.

“The transition is massive, as two years ago, one of them took part in the NMSF Girls on Track Development Programme, which was meant to help her understand the sport more. However, this year, she has been taking podium finishes in some senior classes,” he said.

Ferreira said they had a total of 31 entries, which he described as an overwhelming number of participants.

“It is a good number of entries for this event, and it ran very well, despite the morning hiccups regarding equipment. But it was sorted out later. Overall, it was a very joyous day, and we had a couple of good races between the youngsters and the seasoned guys,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the Micro-Max category, prodigy Russell Josephat dominated proceedings, collecting a total of 105 points, while Adriel Pereira came second with 96 points, and Jose de Almeida finished third with 90 points.

Speaking about his win, JP Josephat, the coach and mentor of the reigning Micro-Max class champion, expressed his delight at making the podium. 

“We didn’t expect to make the podium as we had limited time on our hands before the competition. I am happy that we managed to get on the winner’s list. Heading forward, we have to rework on our shortcomings and ensure we perform our best during the coming race,” he added. Their next event is slated for Swakopmund next month.
