Renowned figures in the athletic world will grace the upcoming edition of the annual Quinton-Steele Botes (QSB) training camp, offering high-performance training and mentorship early next month.
Scheduled from 3-6 January at the Independence Stadium in the capital, the 31st edition of the annual training camp will provide athletes with comprehensive training for both field and track events, along with essential psychological and motivational support.
The event organisers have curated a stellar lineup of world-class coaches, including South Africa’s top high jump coach, Jonathan Greyvenstein, award-winning coach Henk Botha and former Netherlands long-distance runner Grete Koens.
These renowned coaches are expected to impart their knowledge and expertise during the training sessions.
Event organiser Leoni van Rensburg expressed anticipation for a significant number of entries, emphasising the importance of a large pool of athletes participating, especially with an eye on the upcoming Olympics.
“Next year is going to be quite an interesting year, with so many big events to look forward to, so we are hoping to have a big pool of athletes registering for our event next year, and we are looking to have more than 200 athletes at the event,” said van Rensburg.
She highlighted the significance of having international coaches, particularly during Olympic times, to assist local athletes in qualifying for the prestigious event in Paris.
Henk Botha, one of the participating coaches, emphasised the camp’s focus on the development of young athletes in Namibia, expressing his passion for track and field. He explained that his involvement is crucial in grooming young, aspiring athletes in the right manner.
Ryan Williams a South African, coach who will be part of the training event, also shared similar sentiments, stating, “It’s a privilege for me to be part of this training camp and share my knowledge with the young and aspiring athletes. This is my fifth year, and I am proud of how this event has grown and changed many lives. I feel the camp is crucial, given the fact that the athletic season starts as early as January, so having them prepared before the season gets into full swing is just amazing,” stated Williams.
