Boxing enthusiasts in the northern parts of Namibia are in for a spectacular weekend as the prominent MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club gears up for a thrilling event at the Oshakati Stadium.
This will mark the final boxing event of the year for the leading stable.
The club’s chairman, Joseph Bernhard, said he was eager to provide a significant treat for boxing fans in the region, emphasising that this event aims not only to showcase the skills of their boxers and other stables, but also to enhance their ratings.
“This is a perfect week to host such an event because we know everyone is on holiday, or has just started their holiday. It will thus be great to give fans what they want. We also have a congested schedule for next year with the African Games, the Olympics and other major events. Giving our boxers the opportunity to compete now will ensure that when these crucial events arrive, we will perform well and bring home medals,” stated the chairman.
Highlighting the importance of continuous preparation for high-level competition, he added “I believe for boxers to compete at the highest level, they should remain ready, and that’s what we do here. Our boxers are always in the gym training to ensure that they remain in shape. So, I will say all of our boxers are ready for this big event.”
The upcoming event will feature more than 10 bouts, with boxers from various stables in the northern parts of the country vying for top honours. To ensure the safety of the boxers, the chairman, who also serves as coach, reassured them that all necessary measures are in place, including the presence of medics.
