Horse racing event in March …as AGM lined up for this weekend

Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) president, Manes Hendricks, announced yesterday that their first event of the year will take place next month, with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for this weekend to set the stage.

Hendricks stated that their main event is slated for 2 March in Okahandja, organised by NHRA and sponsored by MTC. Despite the high anticipation surrounding the event, Hendricks said that the association will convene its AGM in Windhoek to address various matters.

“As we enter a new year, every sport discipline in the country is eager to kick things off. We will be holding our AGM to prepare for the upcoming MTC-sponsored tournament in Okahandja. The AGM will cover various aspects, including our finances,” he explained.

Regarding event details, Hendricks said, “Preparations are at an advanced stage, and we anticipate over 100 horses competing for the top prize. The venue has been inspected, and all is set. Horse owners have their horses ready, and jockeys are diligently preparing,” he stated.

He said spectators can anticipate an exciting competition, adding that there will be horses from neighbouring countries.

“We have horses coming from Botswana and South Africa, indicating the calibre of the event. Expect top-notch horse racing, and we anticipate local horses to put on a thrilling show at the racecourse,” he concluded.

Speaking about their preparations and expectations for the upcoming event, Eamon Freygang, representing Naris Horse Racing Club, emphasised the significance of the occasion, highlighting that top horses aim to kick off the year with success. “This event carries considerable importance, and every horse owner is eager to make a strong start to the season. We are fully prepared, and I will be entering six horses in this event, aiming to secure victories across multiple races. However, our primary focus will be on Unbroken Promises, whom we intend to feature prominently in the main race,” he said. - mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
