A leading northern-based boxing stable, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, is gearing up to host another thrilling boxing bonanza this month.
The bonanza, scheduled for the 26th of August in Omuthiya, will feature amateur boxing matches, with the stable’s top prospects squaring off against boxers from the Oshikoto region.
This will mark the third event of the year for the academy, running under the theme ‘Young Shall Grow Boxing Bonanza’.
Promoter and founder of Kilimanjaro Promotions Joseph Bernard expressed excitement and said preparation for this highly anticipated event is said to be at an advanced stage.
He emphasised that this bonanza is poised to become one of the year’s most significant amateur boxing events due to its alignment with the national Heroes' Day celebration.
“The timing is perfect, as Namibia commemorates one of its most pivotal days on the calendar. Currently, I am in Omuthiya, inspecting the venue where we will host the event. Our team is diligently working to ensure everything proceeds according to plan. This kind of event has been absent for an extended period, making it a gratifying experience to organise yet another grand spectacle,” Bernard said.
The seasoned promoter said they are aiming to have 20 bouts in the evening.
Regarding the boxers’ preparation, Bernard provided insights into their training routine.
“Our boxers engage in two daily training sessions. Those who don’t have work or school obligations typically gather from 17h00 onward to prepare. We’re eagerly awaiting the night of the fights,” he said.
He said the role of his boxing stable is to keep boxers away from negative social activities.
Bernard said the event serves as a platform for their growth and goal achievement, aligning with the academy’s fundamental objectives.
“Such events keep our boxers busy, preventing them from indulging in negative social activities. Most importantly, they provide a platform for our boxers to thrive and achieve their goals, which aligns with our core mission,” he added.
