Ongos Ladies maintain dominance in WSL

FC Ongos Ladies displayed remarkable resilience in the FNB Women’s Super League, securing back-to-back victories over the weekend despite facing challenges.

Head coach Shama Gure acknowledged the team’s commendable performance, clinching six crucial points, but highlighted the impact of injuries on eight of his
players. On Sunday, Ongos convincingly defeated Ramblers 4-1, following a dominant performance on Saturday against Ongwediva Queens with a 5-1 victory on the road.

Gure expressed the difficulty of the weekend, citing injuries to key players who were on national team duty the previous weekend. Despite requesting match postponements, the team had to navigate the fixtures without its senior players.

Looking ahead, Gure outlined the team’s plans for the remainder of the year, emphasising a return to the drawing board to address shortcomings and facilitate individual player recovery.

“As this marks the last match for the year, we are going to go back to the drawing board and work on our shortcomings. Most importantly, every player will undergo an individual recovery process. It has been a hectic year for the players. We will regroup early next year and develop a new strategy for the second leg,” he explained.

In other Sunday matches, Namib Daughters played to a 1-all draw, Arrows Ladies suffered a 2-3 loss to UNAM Bokkies, and Beauties secured a 5-1 victory against Okahandja. - mkambukwe@nepc.com.na
