Teremoto boxing stable aims for dominance

ONGWENDIVA - Nestled against the picturesque backdrop of Namibia’s sprawling desert landscape, Teremoto Boxing Club is a beacon of inspiration for pugilists aspiring to etch their names into the annals of boxing history.

Amon Iiyambo, the coach and trainer of the stable, says Teremoto is a driving force to boxing opportunities and the overall development of the sport.

“Teremoto Boxing Gym came into existence in 2022 after seven years of meticulous planning and brainstorming. Our primary objective is to create boxing opportunities for athletes and contribute to the sport’s development,” he explained.

In less than two years, the academy has achieved what Iiyambo considers a remarkable feat. “During our existence, we’ve produced reputable boxers who exhibit exceptional competitiveness and dedication to the sport. The academy has successfully nurtured amateur boxers participating at both regional and national levels within eight months — a milestone of considerable significance to our boxing stable,” he said.

Recent triumphs at the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club tournament where they won crucial matches underscores the stable’s dominance. Iiyambo believes it’s only a matter of time before they claim the title of being the leading stable in the northern region.

“Our vision is to become the leading boxing stable in the north and eventually all over Namibia, setting high standards for boxing entertainment. By 2024, we aim to produce both amateur and professional boxers capable of taking the world by storm. Our goal is to provide boxers with more activities and higher-calibre competitions to enhance their skillsets and open doors for global competition,” expressed the chairperson.

Despite their successes, Teremoto Boxing Gym faces daily challenges. Iiyambo highlighted, “We encounter a couple of challenges, foremost being the lack of a suitable gym location and boxing equipment. As a stable, we urge corporate entities to invest in our youngsters, enabling them to realise their dreams. With the right resources, I am confident that our stable, with its talented boxers, could become a formidable force in the boxing space.”
