Volleyball needs sponsors

Technical Director of the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) Joseph Amakali has expressed concern about the impact of limited resources on the growth of the sport in Namibia.

In an interview with New Era Sport on the sidelines of the Central Volleyball Association (CVA) league, held at the Patrick Iyambo College on Saturday, he said the sport has immense potential but struggles to flourish because of inadequate financial support.

“Sponsors play a crucial role in the development of every sports discipline. Their involvement not only improves the quality of play but also contributes to the overall development of the league. Running a league without sponsors is undoubtedly challenging and, in my opinion, hinders the growth of the sport,” Amakali said.

He, thus, appealed to potential sponsors to come forward and support volleyball, emphasising the benefits it would bring to the athletes.

Such support, he added, would not only enhance player development but also contribute to the quality of players available for the national team.

In terms of the progress of the CVA league, Amakali said they have entered the second round and have witnessed an interesting season so far.

“The league started well, and teams have displayed impressive skills. It is a highly-competitive league, with teams fighting for top honours. Currently, the NDF team is leading the log standings, having not lost a single match this season,” he said.

In the men’s category, NDF hold the top position with 44 points, followed by Khomas Nampol Volleyball Club (KNVC) in second place with 34 points.

Afrocat C are in third position with 28 points, and NDF B occupy the fourth spot with a total of 25 points.

In the women’s category, Revival Volleyball Club (RVC) are at the top of the standings with 28 points.

KNVC follow with 18 points, and Kudus hold the third position with the same number of points.

Unam Queens secured fourth place with 12 points.
