Youth rugby invitational draws near

Leading financial service provider Momentum Namibia has announced its sponsorship of the highly anticipated Momentum Namibia Youth Rugby Invitational tournament, scheduled for 10 to 15 July in Windhoek.

In a press statement, Momentum Namibia said this year’s tournament promises to captivate rugby fans and allow school-going rugby players an opportunity to display their talent against their South African counterparts.

The tournament will take place at the Vegkop venue, featuring 24 under-19 clashes from four Namibian schools against four South African schools in what is expected to be an action-packed tournament.

“Our sponsorship exemplifies our dedication and bolstering the local sports community. Through our investment in events such as the Momentum Namibia Youth Rugby Invitational, we aspire to foster the advancement and growth of young rugby players, empowering them to unlock their full potential both on and off the field,” Momentum head of marketing Denille Roostee said.

The teams will be divided into four divisions, namely Cup, Shield, Bowl and Plate.

Each team will compete and secure their place in any of the finals.

This format will add an extra layer of excitement, as teams will be ranked based on their performance during the round-robin matches, leading up to the finals on Saturday, 15th July.

There will also be two ‘Barbarian’ teams, namely the Momentum Rhinos and the Fly Namibia Jets, who will clash on Friday 14 July.

The sponsors added that the Momentum Namibia Youth Rugby Invitational is not just about under-19 matches, as curtain-raiser matches will feature local teams from under 13 to under 19.

“This allows younger players to participate and gain valuable experience, while setting the stage for the main event,” the statement said.

There will also be a vibrant atmosphere with exhibitors from local and international vendors.

“Spectators will have the opportunity to indulge in delicious treats, such as braai vleis, ice cream, coffee, biltong and more, ensuring a complete schoolboy rugby experience for all attendees,” the statement added.

The main matches are scheduled to commence from 14h00 in the afternoons, providing ample time for rugby enthusiasts to witness the excitement unfolding on the field.

The gates will open at 11h00 each day, with a nominal entry fee of N$ 30 to ensure this incredible event remains accessible to all.
