OTJIWARONGO – A total of 225 members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa region were on Friday promoted to the ranks of senior inspector, inspector and warrant officer.
NamPol regional commander, Commissioner Philip Hidengwa announced the promotions and conferred the new ranks on the officers during a weekly parade at the Otjiwarongo Police Station.
“The 225 police officers are from all the 24 police stations in the region and were promoted due to their hard work, dedication, high level of discipline, and a bit of luck,” he said.
Hidengwa also indicated more promotions are planned during his tenure, reassuring those who were not promoted to remain optimistic, saying he views discipline in the force as the key determining factor that drives officers’ promotions.
One of the officers promoted from warrant officer class one to senior inspector was Maria Lazarus, who heads the administration unit of the Otjiwarongo Police Station.
Lazarus said she was thrilled to be recognised and rewarded with a promotion.
She was promoted to senior inspector, leapfrogging the rank of inspector.
“This promotion really excites me and I feel thrilled because I did not expect to jump a rank,” she said.
Inspector Markus Haimbili, who heads NamPol’s Traffic Unit in Otjiwarongo, and was promoted to senior inspector, said it will be hard work from now on.
The ceremony follows an earlier promotion event held in February.
