WINDHOEK – The Polytechnic of Namibia’s Accounting Society (Pacso) has started the year with the registration of new members.
Pacso members held their annual membership intake for the year on Friday, February 6, targeting first year students in the accounting field. The organisation also encouraged second and third year students to register.
“Pacso helps students in the accounting department. If students have problems with any of their subjects we assist them with extra classes and organize companies to come talk about accounting programmes and internships,’’ said Francis Muyoba, president of Pacso.
Muyoba said the group receives sponsorships from various companies, such as from the Bank of Namibia which gives N$5 000 per year for Pacso’s annual functions and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia, which last year donated N$3 000 for academic tours.
Pacso regularly visits schools to motivate students about accounting.
Meanwhile, Deloitte also assists the group with internship and employment for accounting students.
“The new members are required to pay N$45 to register, which covers their extra classes and other activities such as sports,” said Muyoba.
He said their target is to connect all accounting students to possible companies, motivate them to work to achieve good marks, finish their studies and secure a satisfying career.
Pacso also creates awareness through advertising.
Pacso was established seven years ago and was started by accounting and finance students at the Polytechnic.
The main aim is to create a platform where accounting students can express themselves and the organization has been growing since the involvement of the private sector.
