Pensioner runs over grandson

Home National Pensioner runs over grandson

ONGWEDIVA – A grandmother allegedly accidentally ran over and killed her 11-month-old grandson in a freak accident at their house.

It is alleged that the baby snuck under the vehicle without anyone noticing before his grandmother could reverse the car out of the parking space.

According to Oshikoto police Regional Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, the incident took place on Wednesday around 17h00 at Onalunike village in the Omuthiya area.

It is alleged the grandmother, who is the legal owner of a white Toyota bakkie, felt that she drove over something, which prompted her to stop and get out of the vehicle to inspect.

That was when she realised she drove over her grandson.

They rushed him to Omuthiya State hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The victim is identified as White Happiness Florence Ngwedha.

His body was transported to Omuthiya police mortuary for autopsy.

The police cautioned parents not to leave minors unsupervised.

“Children need to be taken care of. You cannot leave them on their own for more than five minutes,” said Kalompo-Nashikaku.
