Police kick off operation Black Mamba

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) have commenced with operation ‘Black Mamba’ in specified regions in response to a rise in specific crimes in the country.

The operation ran  from 1 to 7 November 2024. Speaking from the Rehoboth roadblock, NamPol Hardap regional commander Sydney Philander said the operation addressed an increase in certain crimes in the Khomas, Otjozondjupa and Hardap regions.

These regions were identified by the polic,e and authorised by the inspector general’s office.

The focus was on crimes, including murder, attempted murder, culpable homicide, rape, assault, poaching and stock theft, with similar operations to continue as the country approaches the national elections and the festive season.

Philander noted that several road traffic fines were issued during the operation at the Reboboth roadblock, and a number of people were arrested, including three for drug possession. “We will search vehicles on the road. We are conducting stop-and-search operations in Rehoboth throughout the night and over the weekend. Other regions are doing the same,” he added. -Nampa
