Khomas police commander Ismael Basson said the police are still establishing the reason for a quarrel that led to the death of police officer Nestor Usebui late on Friday evening.

Usebui was shot in the head by his colleague, a 28-year-old constable, who worked with him at the Wanaheda police station. He died instantly. The name of the suspect is being withheld as he is yet to appear in court.

On Friday at around 23h10 at a bar along Iyambo Kalimbo Street, the suspect was arrested after the incident, and is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court today.

“The suspect, a constable by rank, allegedly shot Nestor Usebui in the head, causing his death,” said Basson.

He indicated that the investigations found that the two members were attending a course earlier that day, and were in the location to drink afterwards. A quarrel erupted that led to the shooting.

“The two members were more than colleagues. They were best friends, and went out to party. Up to now, we do not know what prompted the arguments,”  Basson explained.

He said the suspect used a service firearm, and is being detained at the Windhoek police station.
